Mega Wales 2011

The Geocachers of Wales invite you to Swansea for the 4th UK Mega Event on Sunday 31st July 2011 between 10am and 5pm.

The venue has been specifically chosen to provide facilities for geocachers and non-geocachers alike. There is easy access to the town centre and beach as well as the odd cache or two!

The glorious Gower Peninsula and beautiful Brecon Beacons National Park are within easy reach of Swansea making it a perfect holiday location – so whether you come for the day, weekend or longer there will be plenty to do.

As well as the Mega Event itself there will be numerous side events in the wonderful Welsh countryside including hill and coastal walks, beach barbecues & family fun days.

If you intend to join, then please register as an attendee on the Mega Wales Website to ensure that your entry to the event is as smooth as possible, your name badge is ready for you and that our auditable record (essential for confirming Mega status) is complete.

New Multicache Challenge for North Wales

North Wales Geocacher Daerydda has posted an epic series of 8 caches in Southern Snowdonia. 4 of the 8 caches contain clues to find a final hidden cache. The first cache in the series can be found here. These caches are hidden in mountainous areas, so please take sensible precautions such as wearing suitable clothing and footware, informing a friend of your plans, and taking a map and compass in addition to your GPS.

Geocacher It's Only a Game has organised a geostalking event to celebrate a new series of 7 caches in North East Wales near Holywell. The event will take place on Wednesday the 8th of September and participants will be invited to find the caches before their coordinates are published on geocaching.com.

Geocache Trails

A new site www.geocachetrails.com aims to link together caches and multicaches that can be easily completed during the course of a morning or afternoon's circular walk. "A geocache trail is a series of geocaches, usually laid out along a circular route for walking, biking or driving. Completing a geocache trail is a great way to spend a morning, afternoon or day geocaching." There are quite a few such trails in North East Wales, one in Snowdonia, 4 near Aberystwyth and 2 near Cardiff. If you have any suggestions for more please send them to the site using this form.

ITV Wales Geocache!

Those of you Watching Wales Tonight at 6pm on ITV Wales last night may have noticed the article on geocaching, starring our very own Peter Hewlett of geocachingwales.com and Huw Price, a keen geocacher from the Brecon Beacons National Park Authority. Huw and Peter showed Paul Brand of ITV Wales around a few caches in the Park and helped him create an ITV Wales cache. Geocaching at the Crickhowell Walking Festival

The Crickhowell Walking Festival is holding 2 geocaching events as part of its program. The first on Saturday the 28th of February is a race to collect stamps from 6 new caches in the area. The quickest to collect all 6 wins a prize. Entry costs £3. No booking necessary, just come to the Crickhowell information centre CRiC from 10 am.
The second event is a week later on Saturday the 7th of March and is an introduction to geocaching using easier caches. There will be some GPS units provided for you to borrow. Come to the CRiC from 10am. No booking necessary.
